A retired Bloomberg executive advisor becomes a renowned teacher and speaker on communication.
Retired Bloomberg executive Chuck Garcia remembers exactly where he was on September 11, 2001. He was preparing to depart his home for a midday meeting at 1 World Trade Center. The day concluded with Chuck mustering all the strength, courage, and communication ability he had to inform the parents of three young associates that their children had perished that day in the World Trade Center.
“As I look back at my career, that was a turning point,” says Garcia. “A turning point in recognizing the leadership and communication skills that one builds through a career will prepare him or her for the most difficult situations. I was prepared that day. Now, I get to spend the balance of my career teaching people how they can build those skills, too.”
When Chuck Garcia retired from a 25-year career on Wall Street, he knew what he wanted to do, he just didn’t know how to do it. “When I was introduced to the Advantage team and learned about this thing called Authority Marketing, the light bulb was very bright,” says Garcia. “When I began work with the Advantage team we all agreed that the book was the logical place to start.”
Today, Chuck Garcia is an authority in his field, a renowned teacher and speaker on communication.
Published in 2016, A Climb to the Top: Communication & Leadership Tactics to Take Your Career to the Next Level has opened more doors and started more conversations than Chuck could have possibly imagined.
“A few months ago, I completed a 10-day speaking tour in China. All because of my book! (which was also published in Mandarin and is sold in bookstores throughout China). If you would have told me I was going to be doing a book tour in China 18 months ago…I would have said you were nuts!” says Garcia.
Realizing that the book was just the first step, Chuck engaged Advantage|ForbesBooks’ Authority Institute to implements its Authority Marketing System® on his behalf.
“From content marketing, to PR & media, to speaking, I have taken a 360 approach to establishing my thought leadership and it has worked like a charm,” says Garcia. As a result of the visibility the book has built, Chuck was recently invited to join the faculty of Columbia University as an adjunct professor of communication.
For many, retirement is all about tee times. For Chuck Garcia, it has become one of the most rewarding times in his life.
“Working together, Advantage has helped make my ‘golden years’ some of my most rewarding years,” says Garcia.
